Name: Jacopo
Nick: Japo (that's pronunced "Yapo" =P)
Nationality: Italian
Birthday: December 13th
Age: 21
Height: 1.83
Occupation: I'm currently studying Education Studies at University.
I have some experience as an educator in a theatre lab for childern
too.
What’s your hobby? writing and shooting fanmovies; acting
Favorite color: Orange!
Favorite food: Artichokes lasagne =P anyways I'm a vegetarian, so
anything that doesn't contain meat!
Favorite movie: Donnie Darko, all Marvel-comics based movies, Tim
Burton's production, some very sad stuff like Dead Poets' Society.
Favorite book: 1984 by Orwell. And Harry Potter =P
Favorite song: I often change my mind about that!
Favorite music/artist/band: Within Temptation and Nightwish
What’s your favorite subject in the school? Used to be Italian.
Right now maybe teenage pedagogy.
What is your favorite anime-manga character? I actually prefer
american comics, or videogames. So Sora from Kingdom Hearts and Spider-
Man are top of the list.
What was your first cosplay? Why? Harry Potter's quidditch uniform.
Color-packed version of a character I loved.
When did you make your first cosplay? I was about 15. Holy crap,
it's six years now O_O
What’s your favorite cosplay?
Master-Form Sora from Kingdom Hearts II. I'm really attached to it; we shot a fantrailer too... you can watch it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-YXLI6Sed0
What is the most difficult thing making a cosplay?
Cutting the fabric. Getting the right shape so it lines with the other parts is a nightmare.
Have you ever been in anime events?
Quite a load of times =D
What was your best experience wearing a cosplay?
Two skits I guess.
The time we performed as Dragoons from Legend of Dragoon our skit ended with us shouting CHARGE! All the audience in Lucca Comics shouted back taking up their hands. That was a shiver I'd hardly forget. And our skit from X-Men: we worked together as a group and made this very dramatic scene about Jean becoming Dark Phoenix. I (Wolverine) was about to cry in the end, on the final line: "People like us aren't made to die of old age. That's my promise to you, Jean. You and me, you and me in a blaze of glory".
What do you feel when your cosplay is done?
I stare at myself in the mirror for like a century, trying to figure out if I look like the character.
In your own words: What does mean to be a”cosplayer”?
It means trying to honour the work of other people who entertained and excited you. This also means trying to give the people the same emotions you felt, even if you're making fun of them. All with a lot of irony, because you'd never take this seriously. I mean, it's still going around dressed like a cartoon!
Do you think that it is okay that someone hires a person in order to make a cosplay?
Yes, the important is having fun together. Sewing is not for everyone.
What is your next project?
A group from an Italian fantasy series, called "Cronache del Mondo Emerso". And maybe some .Hack//GU!
What do you good at?
Especially writing skits I guess. That's an important part of cosplay in Italy. I try to make things that can entertain people... after all the only work I ever had was in theatre!
Do you have problems with your parents when you are interested in cosplay?
No, it's always been ok to them.
Do your parents against your projects?
Not really. I tend to know when it's time to study =P and cosplay's better than drugs, even if it costs the same XD
Is it challenged for you to make cosplay with many details?
Sure but once or twice a year I like a challenge. The other cosplays I make are quite simpler.
What do you usually do at the moment to choose a character?
I'm quite into the main characters. And nobody ever picks them. Anyways I tend to discuss it with my group.
What would you do if you won an award for the best cosplay in your city?
It happened, that's always exciting. Just once as a single-cosplay, but with our group we won a lot of awards.
Have you ever made in group a cosplay? Why?
Nearly always, with my group (Cosplayers Within). The feeling on stage with my friends is so unique. People tend to notice that too, the fact we're deeply connected to each other in a good way.
Are you looking forward to be in the next cosplay event?
Sure thing *_* as soon as the exams end =P
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Guess I said enough! Thanks for the interview =* bye bye!
Thank you for the interview. I hope you visit Japo's gallery:
